IEERCS FOREIGN VISITING SCHOLARS PROGRAM
 
 
  The Institute of East European, Russian and Central Asian Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Science, founded in l964, is the largest institute in the field of study of the former Soviet and East European countries in China. It has nearly one hundred researchers, of whom, more than sixty are senior fellows. The institute has seven research sections: the Sections of Russian Politics, Russian Economy, Russian Foreign Policy, Central Asia, Ukraine, Central and Eastern Europe and Soviet history. The institute provides computer service and full access to the library to all the researchers and visitors of the institute. The institute has good connections with many well-known institutes and universities in Russia and other countries of the CIS, Central and East European countries, the USA, Germany, Britain, Japan, Australia, etc.

  The institute welcomes foreign scholars to conduct research in the institute for a period of three months, six months or one year. Other length of time over three months may also be considered. Postdoctoral researchers must have a specific research project and Ph. D candidates must present their plans for writing dissertations or collecting materials for their dissertations.

  Rights and Obligations
  Foreign visiting scholars will be provided with an office in the institute and will have free access to books, journals and other materials of the institute's library. They can also use freely computers and internet of the institute. The institute has an obligation to help visiting scholars to organize discussions and seminars in the institute and arrange visits to other academic or government institutions in Beijing or other cities in China if it is requested by visiting scholars to do so. Visiting scholars during their stay in the institute are expected to give at least one lecture on topics of their own choice, and at the completion of the stay, to submit a report on the program.

  Preference
  Preference will be given to those whose research topics are related to Russian domestic politics, Russian economy, Russian foreign policy, Sino-Russian relations, relations among big powers in Northeast Asia, politics, economics and diplomacy of the CIS states, economic and social transformation in Central and East European countries, the history of the Soviet Union, etc.

  Expenses
Visiting scholars will have to cover all the traveling and local expenses by themselves, which include round trip air tickets, local board and lodging, etc. But the institute can arrange inexpensive accommodations for applicants.

  Application and coordinator
  For those who intend to conduct research in the institute for one year, the deadline for application is October 31. For others, application can be submitted anytime. Applications must be submitted together with applicants' vitae and project proposals. Applications should be sent by e-mail or fax to the program coordinator Ms. Feng Yu min

  Notification
Applicants will be informed of selection results within three months after they submit their application.
